My Endurance Coaching Philosophy
It has become clear to me that, for most people, running is rarely just about running. Life is complicated. We all face obstacles, big and small. We are motivated by personal reasons. For many, running helps us become and remain our best self.
My coaching philosophy is client-centered, while also being solution-, health-, and performance-focused. I use a Whole-Person Health Coaching approach. I do not simply provide workouts. Rather, I strive to build a respectful alliance with my athletes and coaching clients. I try to understand what my runners need to feel good about their training, their health, their lives, and themselves.
I aim to inspire my clients to think deeply about how they can structure their time to train well without taking from family, responsibilities, or their ability to take good care of their basic needs. When I build training and coaching plans I consider the big picture, not just the desired performance or health goal. I do everything I can to help my clients experience well-rounded success.
From the outside, it may seem like we runners are a bunch of people trying to run as fast or as far as we can. But it is much bigger. Running is about making a commitment to ourselves to face challenges head on and persevere. Running is about training to endure everything life throws at us. Running is about training to be the best version of ourselves, for ourselves and for those who love us and need us to be well.
Sometimes you need to Create just a little Momentum to get started. I can help with that part!
Because it's never really just about the running.
Sincerely,
Shannon McGinn
