Did you know that there are 96 million American adults who have Prediabetes (1 in 3 adults!)  And of those 96 million, more than 80% don’t even know they have it. Without taking action, many with Prediabetes will develop Type 2 Diabetes within 5 years.

Once diagnosed with diabetes, the cost of healthcare becomes 2.3 times as high compared to someone without diabetes. Diabetes increases risk of serious health complication including heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, loss of toes, feet or leg, a reduced ability to fight off infections, and a reduced lifespan by as much as 10 years.

Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle Coaching for those with Prediabetes has been clinically proven to reverse Prediabetes for the long term.  Prediabetes does NOT need to turn into diabetes but each day that Prediabetes goes untreated the more the body becomes insulin resistant and the harder it becomes to reverse Prediabetes with lifestyle change alone. Research has shown that CDC-recognized lifestyle coaching program participants who were able to lose 5-7% of their body weight and added 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week cut their risk of developing T2 Diabetes by 58% percent (and up to 71% for those over 60 years old).  In comparison, lifestyle coaching was close to two times more effective than prescribing Metformin to those with prediabetes.  In addition, over 10 years later, lifestyle coaching program participants were 1/3 less likely to develop T2 diabetes than those who did not participate in a Prevent T2 lifestyle coaching program. In addition to reversing prediabetes, the Prevent T2 lifestyle program has also been shown to lower the risk of heart attack, lower risk of stroke, improve health, and  increase energy.

The CDC Prevent T2 Curriculum is a lifestyle change program backed by science that:
  • Aims to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 Diabetes for anyone at risk of developing Diabetes.
  • Focuses on making lasting lifestyle changes.
  • Builds up to achievable changes in diet, physical activity, and stress management that can lead to 5% to 7% weight loss in the first 6 months for those whose body composition correlates with increased risk of developing T2 Diabetes.
  • Educates about strategies for effectively self-monitoring optimal diet, physical activity, and proactive coping skills.
  • Builds participant self-efficacy to maintain lifestyle changes and ability to problem-solve to overcome common physical activity, healthy eating and stress management challenges.

Creating Momentums' Diabetes Prevention Coaching Program is for you if:

(1) You have been diagnosed with Prediabetes (ex: A1C is between 5.7-6.4%, fasting glucose is 110-125 mg/dl)

(2) You have been previously diagnosed with gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)

(3) Received a high-risk result (5 or higher) on the Prediabetes Risk Test.  Note: A low score on this test does not mean you are not at risk for Prediabetes but a high score on this test does indicate you are at risk.

Lifestyle Coaching aims to help people with Prediabetes or those at risk of developing T2 diabetes stop or delay their progression towards T2 Diabetes.

Lifestyle Coaching alone cannot replace treatment for Diabetes
. Once you have been diagnosed with T2 Diabetes, treatment by a medical professional is required. However lifestyle coaching should be part of any effective wellness plan. Lifestyle Coaching can help with adherence and increase the efficacy of any treatment plan designed to help manage diabetes.

Prediabetes is when blood glucose (blood sugar) levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. If nothing is done, prediabetes could lead to heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. But with lifestyle change, prediabetes can be stopped or slowed. To determine your risk, take this 1 minute risk assessment.

With type 2 diabetes (T2), your body cannot properly use insulin (a hormone that helps glucose get into the cells of the body). You can get type 2 diabetes at any age, but you are at higher risk if you are older, overweight, have a family history of diabetes, are not physically active, or are a woman who had gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes is a kind of diabetes that some women get when they are pregnant. Even if a woman’s blood sugar levels go down after her baby is born, she is at higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes later in life.

With type 1 diabetes (T1), your body cannot make insulin, so you need to take insulin every day. Type 1 diabetes is less common than type 2; approximately 5-10% of the people who have diabetes have type 1. Currently, no one knows how to prevent type 1 diabetes
